A Lifetime Dedicated to Youth Development Through Tennis
For decades, many young people in Montego Bay’s underserved communities have faced barriers to educational opportunities, mentorship, and organized sports programs.
Friends of Jamaica Non-Profit Tennis Academy & Enrichment Center was created to help change that reality by providing access to tennis, educational support, leadership development, and positive community engagement.
Today, the organization continues to create opportunities that help young people build confidence, develop life skills, and pursue brighter futures.
Meet Delroy Allen
Delroy Allen is the founder of Friends of Jamaica Non-Profit Tennis Academy & Enrichment Centre. Born and raised in Mount Zion, Rose Hall, Montego Bay, Jamaica, his passion for helping young people grew from his own experience discovering how tennis can open doors and transform lives.
As a young ball boy at the renowned Half Moon Resort under the mentorship of Richard Russell, Delroy witnessed the opportunities tennis could create. With the encouragement of others – including a childhood friend who loaned him tennis shoes and a visitor who gifted him a used racket – he eventually became one of Jamaica’s top-ranked tennis players, a certified tennis professional, entrepreneur, philanthropist, and youth mentor.
Those early acts of generosity inspired a lifelong mission: ensuring children from underserved communities have the same opportunities to learn, grow, and pursue their dreams through tennis, education, mentorship, and community support.
More Than a Sport
For Delroy, tennis has always been about much more than competition.
He believes the court is a classroom where young people develop discipline, confidence, resilience, leadership, teamwork, and respect – qualities that prepare them for success both on and off the court.
Through Friends of Jamaica, children receive free tennis instruction alongside academic tutoring, mentorship, transportation, meals, life-skills training, and educational support designed to help them reach their full potential.
Creating Opportunities For Every Child
One of Delroy’s greatest passions is expanding opportunities for children who might otherwise never have access to them.
He is especially committed to encouraging more girls to participate in tennis by providing equal access to coaching, mentorship, scholarships, leadership opportunities, and positive role models.
His vision extends far beyond developing better athletes. He hopes to inspire future teachers, entrepreneurs, coaches, doctors, lawyers, community leaders, and professionals who will positively impact Jamaica and the world.
Building Brighter Futures
What began as one person’s dream has grown into a nonprofit dedicated to transforming lives through tennis, education, mentorship, and community partnerships.
Together with volunteers, donors, and supporters, Friends of Jamaica Non-Profit Tennis Academy & Enrichment Centre continues creating opportunities for young people throughout Montego Bay and across Jamaica – helping every child believe that their future is full of possibility.
“Every child deserves the opportunity to discover their potential. Through sports, education, mentorship, and community support, we can help young people build confidence, pursue their goals, and create brighter futures for themselves and their families.”
